Creation as per Hindu Scriptures

Creation Begins in the Material Realm

Karanodakshayi Maha Vishnu

First Sarga: By the wish of Maha Vishnu (Karanodakshayi Maha Vishnu) only living entity in the material realm creates 3 qualities of Satva, Rajas & Tamas. From this “Buddhi” (Intelligence) arises further to “Aham”(EGO) rises & that further rise “Manas”(Mind)

Second Sarga: The Mind gave rise to 10 Indriya which include (ears, skin, eyes tongue & nose and mouth, arms, legs, excretory & reproductory)

Third Sarga: It shows the formation of 5 Tanmatras (Sound, Touch, Taste, Form & Smell followed by the Basic Elements, the Panch-Mahabhoot which is like the three Primary colors, give rise to Matter in various forms through their permutations and combinations. These Famous Five are — Space, Air, Water, Fire & Earth.

These 3 phases of creation are collectively known as PRAKIRITIK Sarga as they are not the creation of Brahma

Shri Garbhodakshayi Vishnu.

After 1000 maha yugas, a lotus bud emerges from the naval of lord Vishnu, and inside that Brahma came into existence. So Vishnu became a father as well as the mother of lord Brahma. With five heads Brahma then went into meditation for 100 maha yugas.

Each Universe has a personal form of Lord Vishnu & Lord Brahma. There are billions of Brahma taking care of their creation of the universe.

The creation starts.

Mukhya Sarga — Brahma first creates Immovable objects such as Planets, Land, Mountains, etc. This is the fourth phase of the creation

Tiryak Sarga — In the next phase called the Tiryak Sarga, Brahma creates 6 different types of Vegetation covering trees/herbs/creepers, etc., 12 different varieties of Birds, and 28 different broad classifications of Animals

Deva Sarga — Creation of Demigods and other Advanced Species of life and is therefore known as the Deva Sarga

  • First comes the 4 Eternal Kumars — They remain the same throughout their Life. All of them choose the path of spirituality instead of following Brahma’s order of procreation
  • Rudras: 11 Rudras (One of them is Lord Shiva). On Request from Brahma Rudra appeared as Ardhnareshwar and generated a female principal, Rudrani. Each of the 11 Rudra obtained Rudrani respectively. However, the Rudras were all fierce since they represented the Supreme Lord’s power of Destruction! the progeny of Rudra was not what he wanted to populate the world with, Brahma
  • Manas Putras: Then Brahma created 10 ManasPutras (Atri, Angiras, Atharva, Bhrigu, Daksh, Marichi, Pulah, Pulatsya, Vasishtha, and the youngest one Narad.)
  • Asurs by negative energy: When all these 10 Manas Putras preferred to follow the footsteps of the Kumars, by refusing to get entangled in the process of procreation, Brahma again filled up with Negative energy — this resulted in the creation of Asurs. After realizing Brahma let go of this Tamsik Dark aspect of his being which resulted in the creation of Night-time.
  • Devas by positive energy: Brahma took a Satvik form and created the Devas. These are the demi-gods who became the caretakers of different aspects of Material Creation. This Bright aspect of Brahma’s personality led to the creation of daytime.
  • Pitras: Brahma then created the Pitras. The planet of the Pitras has one day and night equal to a fortnight for each of the humans.
  • Brahma then created other divinities such as Goddesses; Sarawati and Gayatri, the Goddess of delivery “Prasuti” & Four Vedas. Prasuti became the wife of the eldest manas putra “Daksh” which leads to the first woman to give birth to a child by normal delivery.
  • In some of the scriptures, it is to be believed that “Prasuti” is the daughter of the first man & woman created by lord Brahma i.e “Manu” and “Shatrupa”
